An Oren’s at Origin Coffee
We are pleased to introduce to you our newest coffee – Nicaragua La Ampliación – A 2011 Cup of Excellence Award Winning Coffee.
The farmer, Maykol Yader Montenegro, purchased this farm five years ago, and has been working diligently with his family to improve the farm and produce top-quality coffees. This lot is a Maracatura varietal, grown appromixately 1300 m above sea level.
This coffee is from Dipilto in the Nueva Segovia region in the north of the country. This growing region produces some of the sweetest and most delicate coffees in Nicaragua.
Oren’s Cupping Description:
A floral coffee with juicy plum, a balanced acidity, and a long sweet finish.
The international panel of cuppers that judged this coffee had these as some of their descriptions of this amazing coffee:
Aroma & Flavor: floral, rose, black currant, plum, chocolate, dark berries, raspberries, red apple, vanilla, spice, dried dates.
Acidity: balanced, complex, clear, malic, grape, tartaric.
Other: long spicy finish, very sweet, multi-dimensional.
WHAT IS THE CUP OF EXCELLENCE?
Cup of Excellence® is a prestigious international program that gives its award (The Cup of Excellence® Award) to the best coffees produced in particular countries each year. The coffees are submitted by the farmers, cupped and rated by a panel of national and international judges. The winning coffees are sold to the highest bidders in an online auction. The program is an effective way to reward the hard work and quality of smaller farmers, who would otherwise not get recognized.
